Pain Management

Operation free flow of Qi flow!
Because perception and tolerance of pain vary widely from person to person, pain is difficult to define and describe.  Essentially, pain is the way your brain interprets information about a particular sensation that your body is experiencing.  This information (signals) is sent via nerve pathways to your brain, which interprets them as pain, which the body then experiences.

Pain comes in many varieties: stabbing; boring; dull; cramping; burning; spastic; distending; aching, and it can be in a fixed location or wandering.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) theory explains that pain and disease are caused by either an imbalance or a blockage of Qi (energy) circulating through the body.  Acupuncture restores balance to the flow of Qi, returning the body to a healthy state.

By using Master Tung's incredible acupuncture system: pain can be quickly relieved (after needle insertion or later), few points are used which are inserted on the opposite side of the body to where the pain is, so that the affected area can be moved in order to gauge improvement of pain and ROM (range of motion).

Many studies have shown that acupuncture releases endorphins (our body's natural morphine). This release of endorphins (natural painkiller) helps to explain how acupuncture treats pain and also the extremely relaxed, euphoric feeling most people experience after a treatment.

Whether your pain is acute or chronic acupuncture goes right to the source (root) of the problem, treating the underlying causes of each person’s individual imbalance holistically.
Acupuncture treats many painful conditions including:

  • Arthritis: Osteo & Rheumatoid
  • Neuralgia (nerve pain)
  • Sciatica
  • Back Pain
  • Joint Pain: knee, shoulder, elbow, neck, wrist etc
  • Tendonitis
  • Stiff Neck, whiplash
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Post operative pain
  • Sprains
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Pain from Auto Immune Conditions
  • Dental Pain
  • Earache
  • Sinusitis
  • Gout
  • Sports injuries
  • Dysmenorrhoea

When treating painful conditions we frequently integrate some of the following treatments with needling:

  • Chinese Cupping Therapy in which glass or bamboo cups are applied to affected parts of the body.  The pressure in the cups is reduced by either heat or suction.  This removes stagnation and opens the meridians enabling the Qi to flow smoothly.  It activates the lymphatic system, promotes blood circulation and is excellent for deep tissue repair.
It also treats respiratory conditions such as cold, flu, bronchitis etc.

  • Moxibustion which is a TCM technique involving the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, that facilitates healing through strengthening the Blood and stimulating the flow of Qi.

  • Electro-acupuncture stimulates the body’s healing processes by sending electrical impulses through the meridians, muscles and nerves.  It promotes the release of endogenous neurotransmitters such as beta-endorphin, a natural analgesic.
